The Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh has thrown its support behind Dorothy Kweyu’s endeavor to raise Ksh150 million to save her son from facing execution. Kweyu’s appeal, shared by the Embassy, aims to gather funds by May 15 to secure the release of her son, Stephen Bertrand Munyakho, also known as Stevo. Munyakho, held in custody in Saudi Arabia since 2011, faces the threat of execution if the required funds are not raised. His incarceration stems from an altercation resulting in the death of a Yemeni national, a situation his mother, a veteran journalist, asserts was unintended. The Yemeni family has waived their right to retaliate, easing the situation. Munyakho has spent 13 years in Shimeisi Prison in the Governorate of Mecca. Despite initially being sentenced to death, Kweyu later learned that Islamic Law permits financial compensation, providing an opportunity for resolution.
