The nationwide doctors’ strike, which plunged the country into a healthcare crisis, is now drawing to a close, as announced by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

Through its official channels, the Ministry disclosed that the government had successfully brokered an agreement, effectively ending the 56-day strike. This resolution came after an extensive meeting between representatives of the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) and government officials.

“After 56 days, KMPDU signs agreement, ending nationwide doctors’ strike,” declared the Ministry of Health.

The signing of the return-to-work formula took place on Wednesday evening, aligning with the directive issued by the Labour Relations Court. The court had instructed the conflicting parties to reach a consensus and put an end to the prolonged strike.

Following the signing of the agreement by both doctors and government representatives, KMPDU is expected to issue directives regarding the resumption of work for doctors.
