The Parliamentary Select Committee investigating the impeachment motion against Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi rejected a proposal to summon crucial witnesses to testify on the fake fertilizer supply.

According to a source familiar with the situation, two key witnesses, Agriculture Principal Secretary Kipronoh Ronoh and a businessman, were scheduled to provide testimony. However, the committee voted on the matter, with 11 members voting against summoning the witnesses, while seven voted in favor and four abstained.

Members supporting the motion not to summon witnesses were primarily from the Kenya Kwanza administration, including Samuel Chepkonga, Njeri Maina, Naomi Wako, George Murungara, Moses Injendi, and Kassim Tandaza. On the other hand, those in favor included Catherine Omanyo, TJ Kajwang, Robert Mbui, and Yusuf Farah Mohammed.

Rachel Nyamal, representing the Jubilee party, voted against summoning witnesses. Meanwhile, CS Linturi has vigorously contested the impeachment motion, challenging the evidence presented and urging the Committee to declare his innocence.

Specifically addressing the fake fertilizer allegations, Linturi demanded evidence of his formal authorization for the sale, challenging MP Jack Wamboka, who sponsored the motion, to provide such proof.

The Committee is expected to submit its findings to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Monday, May 13. Linturi’s lawyer, Muthomi Thiankolu, emphasized that the CS has not been presented with any evidence of his involvement in the fertilizer purchase.
