New details have emerged regarding the tragic death of 19-year-old Faith Musembi, who was discovered deceased in her rented room at Pilot Estate in Thika, Sub-County, last week.
According to reports, detectives have apprehended a 25-year-old university student who is being treated as the main suspect in the case. Concerned by the situation, Faith’s family acquiesced to the attacker’s demands and sent Ksh27,000 in an attempt to secure her daughter’s release. However, the attacker refused to release Faith and instead demanded an additional Ksh33,000 from the family.
Despite Faith’s family reporting the matter at Thika West Police Station, they felt disheartened by the response of the police officers, who suggested it might be a ruse orchestrated by Faith’s friends.
Unconvinced by the police reaction, the family decided to visit the university to report the matter. Additionally, Faith’s father, Boniface, visited her house in Pilot Estate, only to find her lifeless body lying on the floor.
“We took action and went to her house and broke the lock. Upon gaining access, I was shocked to find my daughter’s body lying on the floor,” he recounted.
Shortly after, police officers arrived at the scene and have since launched investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Faith’s death.
Faith’s father disclosed details of the messages sent by her assailant:
Father: Your days are numbered. What you did to her is unforgivable.
Attacker: No problem, when my time comes, I will follow suit. You failed to follow simple instructions and chose to do things your way.
Father: Was all the money sent not enough?
Attacker: How much is Ksh27,000 when I needed Ksh60,000? The mother was clever to fool me, saying she would send it by 8:00 am, but when that time came, she began to ignore my texts. The results are right with you.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday at General Kago Funeral Home revealed that Faith died due to excessive bleeding.
Faith’s cousin, Dominic Makau, demanded swift justice, especially given that the postmortem suggested Faith was pregnant at the time of her death.
“According to the doctor, she had bleeding in the uterus caused by the placenta detaching itself. We need the DCI to investigate and determine what led to that,” he remarked.
