Kenya received a beneficial initiative to improve family planning through the issuing of self – injecting contraceptives to protect women across the country.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has funded over Ksh 57 million for the 450,000 doses of self-injectable contraceptives from UK government.
The contraceptive is known as Depot Medroxyprogestrone Acetate in its subcutaneous form ( DPMA – SC) is said that it can prevent over 122 maternal deaths, 12,310 unsafe abortions and 42,750 unwanted pregnancies.
The ministry of health has therefore distributed the contraceptives to various health facilities countrywide so as to protect women across the nation.
