Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba on Tuesday, May 22, responded to remarks by Kirinyaga Governor and Council of Governors (CoG) Chairperson Anne Waiguru regarding the ‘One Man, One Shilling, One Vote’ agenda.
Wamuchomba, in a post on her official social media handles, reiterated that the agenda advocated by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was the right direction. She further questioned Waiguru on her actions as the CoG chairperson to aid Mt. Kenya residents, who are struggling with low returns on their coffee produce, alcoholism, and an unfavorable business climate, especially as enterprises in the region are shutting down due to challenging operating conditions.
“Before you lecture us, please tell us, as CoG chair, why our coffee farmers are not receiving the Ksh80 per kilogram from the cherry fund as agreed during the coffee reforms,” she questioned.
Wamuchomba also raised concerns about the alleged dismissal of Mt. Kenya individuals from government positions, with Waiguru remaining silent on the matter. She inquired about the status of several incomplete projects in the region, including the Kenol-Marua road, Mau-Mau road, and the Ruiru Dam.
“You are the Chair of the Council of Governors, comfortably seated while we struggle with rising economic stress, business closures, alcoholism, and the neglect of projects by the Kenya Kwanza regime, which you are now defending online,” she remarked.
Additionally, the former radio presenter commented on Waiguru accompanying President William Ruto during his official state visit to the US. Wamuchomba urged the Governor to leverage her position to secure loans that would fund projects in the larger Mt. Kenya region.
Wamuchomba’s remarks followed Waiguru’s confrontation with the Deputy President, arguing that it was wrong for Gachagua not to nurture young leaders aspiring to his position.
