A tragic road accident claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and his passenger in Bomet County on Thursday.
The incident occurred when the motorcyclist attempted to overtake a private car at Chebole trading center and collided head-on with a lorry. The collision resulted in the immediate death of both the rider and the pillion passenger. Fortunately, the driver of the lorry escaped unharmed during the early morning accident along the Sotik-Bomet highway.
According to a witness, the motorcyclist switched lanes in an attempt to overtake the private car but was struck by the oncoming lorry, resulting in the fatal outcome.
County disaster officers, led by Stanley Mutai, confirmed that the victims had already succumbed to their injuries by the time they reached the scene. The police subsequently removed the bodies to a nearby morgue for further procedures.
Mutai noted that the lorry was traveling from Kaplong to Bomet when the accident occurred. Bomet Central Sub-County Police Commander, Bashir Ali, stated that investigations into the incident have been initiated.
