Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has responded to Oscar Sudi, an ally of President Ruto, regarding his remarks about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. On Monday, Barchok warned Sudi against publicly criticizing the deputy president, calling it disrespectful.
“We are not going to allow a few people to bring shame to our government. DP Gachagua must be respected. If there is something he (the deputy president) has said that you do not agree with, there is a respectable way to address it,” Barchok stated. He emphasized that the Deputy President was crucial in supporting Ruto’s candidacy in 2022 and thus deserves respect.
The Governor’s comments were in reaction to Oscar Sudi’s statements where Sudi declared that the DP could not threaten him.
On Sunday, Oscar Sudi told Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that he (Sudi) was free to travel across the country in support of his party leader, President Ruto. Sudi emphasized the need for mutual respect among party members, stating, “Everyone contributed to the Kenya Kwanza Government. Let’s respect each other. We ask the President and his deputy to respect us. We can’t allow them to come and harass small leaders.”
Sudi’s remarks were a response to comments made by Gachagua on Saturday, where the Deputy President accused Ruto’s allies of engaging in early succession politics. Gachagua questioned, “There are politicians from Rift Valley who have partnered with others in the Mt Kenya region and have decided to plan 2027 politics now. Why do you want to succeed the president while he is still alive?”
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok also weighed in, warning Sudi against disrespecting the deputy president and emphasizing Gachagua’s significant role in supporting Ruto’s 2022 candidacy. Barchok’s remarks highlight a growing rift within President William Ruto’s party, amid rumors of political tensions between Gachagua and Ruto. However, the Deputy President has consistently denied any fallout with the President.
