UDA leaders in Kisii County have vowed to escort Deputy Governor Robert Monda back to office after the Machakos Law Courts blocked the Senate from gazetting his impeachment. Despite the court order, Governor Simba Arati nominated County Public Service Board Chairman Elijah Obebo as the Deputy Governor.

Obebo was vetted and approved by the county assembly, but IEBC Chief Executive Officer Marjan Hussein Marjan informed ODM that he cannot gazette Obebo due to the court order. Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda emphasized that the court ordered Monda’s return to office until the petition against his impeachment is resolved.

“We have set a date to escort the Deputy Governor to his office and challenge those defying court orders,” he said. Speaking in Riondanga, during the burial of Monda’s mother-in-law, National Assembly Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro called the impeachment process unnecessary.

“The allegations against Dr. Monda were fabricated. We need unity and development, not conflict. This is a spiritual fight; church leaders must unite and pray,” he said.

Osoro claimed the disputes have hindered development. Woman Rep Dorice Donya, who campaigned with Monda, committed to reinstating him. MCAs, led by Kisii Central Ward Rep Wilfred Monyenye and Health Committee Chair Amos Onderi, vowed to challenge the suspension of several Chief Officers.

“Some officers were suspended without due process. We seek a statement in the county assembly on the status of the Kisii County Cabinet. It is unfair to condemn our people without hearing them,” they said.

Assembly Minority Chief Whip Bouse Mairura called the suspensions a witch-hunt.
