On Monday, through his spokesperson Kanze Dena, former President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed that the Kenya Kwanza administration has been denying his mother, Mama Ngina, her entitled benefits.

During a live press conference, Dena revealed that the government had withdrawn Mama Ngina’s security detail, validating recent social media reports. The withdrawal, done via a phone call in 2023, came without prior notice. She also dismissed claims that her security detail had been restored.

“On July 18, 2023, at 7:00 PM, all her drivers and security personnel were withdrawn from her residences via phone call. The media reports of personnel reinstatement are false,” Dena stated. She added that the government had not replaced Mama Ngina’s vehicles every three years as mandated by law.

Dena explained that the three Range Rovers currently used by Mama Ngina were issued during former Presidents Moi and Kibaki’s tenures and replaced regularly until recently. One of the vehicles is now unusable due to the lack of replacements.

Furthermore, Dena disclosed that Mama Ngina’s fuel cards have been canceled since March 2023, forcing her to cover fuel costs herself.

Kanze Dena also refuted claims that former President Kenyatta has a fully furnished office maintained by the government. She clarified that Kenyatta personally furnishes his office and covers its operational budget. Additionally, the vehicles he uses are not new, and the State House has blocked fuel cards for them.
