Nairobi, June 13 – President William Ruto left the country on Thursday to attend the 50th G7 Summit in Italy. During the summit, President Ruto will stress the significance of involving African nations in addressing global challenges such as climate change, peace, and security. He will underscore Africa’s potential for green industrialization, digital revolution, and innovation, highlighting the continent’s vast renewable energy reserves.

“These renewable energy resources can help many developed countries achieve their Net Zero targets by 2050,” stated a communication from State House Nairobi on its official social media platforms.

Additionally, President Ruto will discuss African Union reforms designed to enhance trade, development, peace, stability, and greater global participation. He has consistently advocated for reforming the international financing architecture, including multilateral development banks, to ensure inclusivity and fair representation. “President Ruto has emphasized the need to democratize the boards of multilateral development banks, ensuring that all members have an equal say in their management,” the statement noted. He pointed out that the current international financial architecture is inequitable and requires adjustments to better reflect the interests of developing nations.

The G7 Summit, which brings together Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, will focus on critical global issues of international cooperation. Other African heads of state attending include the presidents of Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia.

Following the summit, President Ruto will travel to Switzerland on Sunday to engage with other leaders regarding the conflict in Ukraine. He will highlight the impact of the conflict on African countries, many of which rely on imports from Ukraine.
