Security has been significantly bolstered along routes leading to State House in anticipation of upcoming protests against the Finance Bill.

Demonstrators, organized through X space and various social media platforms, have declared their intention to stage a protest at State House today.

These developments follow last week’s notable protests where youth opposed to the Finance Bill forcefully entered both the Senate and the National Assembly.

Affected roads include Dennis Pritt Road, State House Avenue, Processional Way, Valley Road, Jakaya Kikwete Road, and nearby pedestrian pathways.

Authorities advise motorists to seek alternative routes to their destinations. The heightened security measures have prompted security personnel to require identification and purpose from individuals seeking access near State House.

Police have also intensified patrols in Nairobi’s Central Business District to prevent any potential looting or property damage should protests spill into the streets.

Footage from Thursday morning reveals a largely deserted CBD, with many businesses closed amid heightened tension.

These developments occur one day after President William Ruto withdrew the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Addressing the media at State House, President Ruto explained the decision to withdraw the bill, citing public outcry over its potential impact on living costs.

“I have carefully considered the concerns expressed by Kenyans regarding this bill and have decided not to sign it. Consequently, I have initiated the process to withdraw it,” he stated in a press briefing.
