Select members of the County Executive Committee, led by County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Kiambi Atheru, convened a press briefing to address an inaccurate report issued by the Controller of Budget regarding the Executive’s spending on foreign travels.
The officials unequivocally affirmed that during the specified period, the Executive only utilized Ksh910,000, contrary to the implications in the report. They clarified that the total expenditure by the County Government of Meru amounted to Ksh43.75 million, with Ksh42.84 million being spent by the County Assembly of Meru.
The County Government has taken steps to rectify this error by drafting and submitting a letter to the relevant office for correction to ensure accuracy. Emphasizing their commitment to responsible governance under H.E. Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s administration, which upholds servant leadership principles, they made it clear that any insinuation of reckless misuse of public funds is unfounded.
The Executive encourages individuals with concerns to come forward for clarification and reassures the people of Meru of the county government’s dedication to transparency and accountability in governance.
