The government, through Huduma Kenya, on Friday urged Kenyans who are yet to collect their documents, including driving licenses, identification cards, and birth certificates, to do so promptly.
Document Collection Details
Huduma Kenya announced that approximately 45,575 smart driving licenses, 134,602 identification cards, and 38,928 birth certificates have been processed and are ready for collection.
Kenyans who have registered for these documents are directed to collect them at any of the 53 Huduma Centres nationwide. For driving licenses, collection is available at 15 designated Huduma Centres.
Huduma Kenya Statement
“Issuance of Drivers License Biometrics is available at our 15 select Huduma Centres Countrywide,” read part of the statement.
Public Uproar and Delays
This announcement follows public concerns over prolonged delays in processing essential documents, including ID cards and driving licenses. Huduma Kenya acknowledged these delays, attributing them to pending court cases that have created a backlog in the system.
“Due to the court orders stopping Maisha card production, it leads to many IDs not being processed, causing a delay in ID production,” Huduma Kenya stated. “We apologize for the delay. We are experiencing a backlog, but it is being handled.”
Huduma Kenya’s Response
Huduma Kenya addressed the matter after applicants revealed that they had applied to replace their IDs in January and were still waiting to receive them.
