President William Ruto has unveiled plans for a six-day multi-sectoral dialogue forum starting on July 15th, aimed at addressing critical challenges facing Kenyans.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Ruto outlined that the forum will gather representatives from political parties, religious groups, civil society, employers, and youth organizations. Emphasizing fiscal responsibility, Ruto noted that all participants will cover their own attendance costs following morning consultations.
Stakeholders are urged to finalize their representatives by Friday, with the forum intended to chart a path forward for the nation.
The announcement follows Ruto’s endorsement of the 2024 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) (Amendment) Bill, a product of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) formed after contested 2022 election results.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, leading the opposition, endorsed Ruto’s initiative as pivotal amid ongoing national challenges. Odinga stressed the forum’s role in amplifying citizen voices and addressing issues like unemployment, corruption, and economic management.
The forum’s unveiling coincides with nationwide protests against increased taxation and governance under Ruto’s administration, resulting in over 39 deaths, as reported by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
