President William Ruto announced the resignation of Japhet Koome as the Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS). In a formal statement, President Ruto accepted Koome’s resignation, signaling a transition within the top leadership of the NPS.
To ensure continuity, President Ruto designated Douglas Kanja as the acting Inspector General of Police. Kanja, who currently serves as the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, will hold the position temporarily until a permanent replacement for Koome is nominated, approved by parliament, and officially appointed.
“The Head of State has, in accordance with Section 16 of the National Police Service Act, designated Mr. Douglas Kanja, CBS, the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, as the acting Inspector General of the National Police Service,” announced President Ruto.
In addition to this significant change, President Ruto appointed Patrick Mwiti Arandu as the new Commissioner General of Prisons. Arandu succeeds Brigadier John Warioba, who is set to proceed on terminal leave as his tenure comes to an end.
These appointments mark a pivotal moment for the National Police Service and the Prisons Service, as the new leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives and reforms to enhance the effectiveness and integrity of these critical institutions.
