In a press briefing on Thursday, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura refuted claims that President William Ruto had violated his own directives by participating in a church fundraiser. Mwaura emphasized that there was insufficient evidence to support these allegations, urging the public to adhere strictly to the President’s guidelines, which include refraining from engaging in fundraisers and other forms of community contributions, known locally as Harambees.
“The directive to restrict participation in Harambees is a presidential mandate that must be followed,” Mwaura asserted during the briefing held on June 5, 2024, at the Media Analysts Luncheon. He highlighted ongoing legislative efforts and public sentiment regarding the matter, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing concerns raised by the public.
Mwaura also addressed recent protests, attributing financial losses to disruptions allegedly caused by infiltrators.
