Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has issued a formal apology following an attack on journalists and coalition leaders during an event he presided over at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF) offices. In a statement released on Thursday, July 18, Odinga condemned the incident and expressed regret over the disruption that occurred after he had departed from the venue.

“Raila Odinga regrets the events of yesterday and takes this opportunity to offer unreserved apologies to the journalists and fellow leaders who were caught up in the unfortunate incident,” read a statement from his spokesperson, Dennis Onyango.

The disturbance occurred on Wednesday when a group of over 30 youths disrupted proceedings at the Azimio meeting, interrupting a speech by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Video footage captured the chaotic scene, where journalists covering the event were also affected by the disturbance.

Odinga assured the media and coalition partners that the incident would be thoroughly reviewed and security measures would be enhanced to prevent such occurrences in the future.
