Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has advised the public to steer clear of crowded areas amid ongoing anti-government demonstrations across the country. During a press briefing on Tuesday, Acting IG Kanja emphasized the importance of vigilance for personal safety as citizens go about their daily activities.
“We appeal to all members of the public to remain vigilant in crowded areas and share any information that may assist the police in detecting and preventing crime,” he stated.
Kanja revealed that the National Police Service (NPS) had obtained intelligence indicating that groups of agitators were planning to storm several protected areas, including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), which demonstrators had aimed to occupy on Tuesday.
The Acting IG assured the public that the government remains committed to safeguarding critical infrastructure, recognizing their vital role in national security. He affirmed that the government will not waver in its efforts to protect these key assets.
To enhance security measures, Kanja highlighted the government’s adoption of a multi-agency approach to intelligence gathering and crime prevention. This strategy aims to ensure that potential threats are detected and thwarted before they can materialize, maintaining the country’s safety and stability.
“The government will employ a multi-agency approach to gather intelligence, thwart crime before it happens, and secure the country,” Kanja reiterated.
