The National Assembly confirmed it has received recommendations from the general public to abolish the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary. These recommendations were presented to the National Assembly Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations, chaired by Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
The Parliament’s Report of the Budget and Appropriations Committee on the First Supplementary Estimates for the Financial Year 2024/25 disclosed that the proposal would be forwarded to President William Ruto for action. According to the Nyoro-led team, only the Presidency has the authority to abolish the Executive Office currently held by Musalia Mudavadi.
In a statement on July 22, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro addressed the National Assembly, highlighting the Committee’s stance: “The Committee has taken note of this proposal and will put forward a proposal for consideration by the Executive, noting that the reorganisation of the executive is a prerogative of the Presidency,” the report indicated.
Despite the Budget and Appropriations Committee’s recognition of the proposal to abolish Mudavadi’s office, the Committee on Administration and Internal Security opposed the reorganisation of the Executive. Their concerns were particularly focused on the potential abolishment of the Office of the First Lady and the Office of the Spouse to the Deputy President, which could expose the national government to litigation.
“The Committee on Administration and Internal Security observed that the staff under the two offices had signed contracts, and the discontinuation of their services may attract litigation or additional costs,” the report stated.
