President William Ruto has signed the Supplementary Appropriations Bill, officially endorsing a plan to cut government expenditure by Ksh145.7 billion.
The signing ceremony at State House was attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The presidency, which includes the offices of the President and Deputy President, will face a significant reduction in spending by Ksh6 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year.
The National Treasury’s budget will be reduced by Ksh7 billion, while the transport sector, including road projects, will see a Ksh17.3 billion cut in recurrent expenditure.
Additionally, various development projects under medical services will have Ksh6.9 billion trimmed from their budget.
President Ruto’s approval of the bill follows its passage by the National Assembly on July 31, with amendments.
