Cabinet Secretary for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Wycliffe Oparanya, has issued a strong warning to the current administration, stating he will resign if President William Ruto’s government does not implement the strategies he has proposed for the sector.

Speaking during a church service in Western Kenya, Oparanya expressed his unwavering commitment to advancing MSMEs and the wider economic landscape. He emphasized his successful tenure as the former Governor of Kakamega County, where he was instrumental in driving significant development projects.

“You witnessed the work I accomplished in Kakamega, which is why I was chosen to help deliver,” Oparanya noted, reflecting on his time in Kakamega, where he was praised for his contributions to infrastructure, healthcare, and the local economy, particularly through his support for small businesses.

Oparanya’s appointment to the MSMEs docket was viewed as a strategic decision by President Ruto’s administration, aiming to capitalize on his extensive experience in local governance and economic management.

However, Oparanya made it clear that his position in the Cabinet depends on the government’s willingness to follow his guidance and implement the necessary strategies for the growth of the MSME sector.

“I am here to help, but if they refuse to take my advice, I will resign and return home. To be helped, you must be willing to accept assistance,” Oparanya asserted.

During his vetting by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, Oparanya committed to transforming the MSME sector, drawing on his previous success in revolutionizing the milk industry in Kakamega County. He also pledged to introduce changes to the Hustler Fund, a key initiative under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
