On Tuesday, Senators confirmed the nomination of Douglas Kanja as the new Inspector General of Police. The announcement was made by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi during a mid-morning session, following the approval under Article 2A, Section 12 of the National Police Service Act, and Section 8 of the Public Appointments and Parliamentary Approval Act.
Kanja’s appointment comes just days after his vetting by the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security, along with the Senate’s Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations. During his vetting on August 15, Kanja committed to implementing significant reforms within the National Police Service, including measures to combat banditry and tackle deep-seated corruption within the service.
