A family in Ebuluchia Village, Kakamega County, is in deep mourning following the sudden death of their daughter, Brenda Masakhwe, just days after a successful dowry negotiation ceremony. Brenda, who was set to marry soon, tragically lost her life in a road accident on Saturday.

The fatal accident claimed the lives of five people, including Brenda, when a speeding trailer collided with the vehicle carrying the bridal party. The tragic incident occurred in the Murgus area along the Eldoret-Malaba highway in Kakamega County.

The joyous dowry negotiations had brought together Brenda’s family and her husband-to-be in a celebration filled with dancing, feasting, and shared happiness. Brenda’s mother, Mary Masakhwe, described her daughter as being overjoyed during the event. “We had a very joyous celebration on Saturday. My daughter was thrilled; I didn’t know it would be the last time I would see her,” said the grieving mother.

Brenda’s father, Javan Masakhwe, recounted the day with sorrow. “They had come to ask for my daughter’s hand in marriage, to which I consented. They left at around 4 p.m. That was the last time I saw my daughter,” he lamented.

The accident occurred when a trailer, reportedly speeding from Eldoret, hit the rear of a tractor before losing control and colliding with the oncoming Toyota Probox in which Brenda and her companions were traveling. Two survivors from the crash are currently receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Webuye Hospital Morgue.

What was meant to be a joyous occasion, leading to a wedding, has ended in unimaginable grief, with Brenda’s family now preparing for her funeral.
