Activist Boniface Mwangi has pledged to lead a procession to State House in an effort to pressure President William Ruto into addressing the recent spike in abductions. Speaking outside the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Tuesday, September 3, Mwangi criticized President Ruto’s administration for its failure to secure the release of three individuals who were abducted in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Mwangi announced plans to personally deliver a list of all missing persons to the President during the march, stating, “Our demand is to release these three men unconditionally and every other person who is missing.”
The activist’s remarks came shortly after he was released from custody, where he faced charges of participating in an unlawful assembly and allegedly orchestrating violence during recent anti-government protests. The court denied the prosecution’s request for a two-week extension to continue investigations, leading to Mwangi and his co-accused regaining their freedom.
Mwangi, alongside fellow human rights activist Hussein Khalid, had also been prominent during protests against the Finance Bill 2024. As he vowed to march to State House, Mwangi emphasized the public nature of the office, stating, “We shall march to the State House to give Ruto a list of missing people because it is a public office.”
