Acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, is facing legal pressure after the family of Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA), Yussuf Ahmed, filed a petition following his disappearance.
The petition seeks to compel Masengeli and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Mohamed Amin, to produce the missing MCA. Ahmed’s family also demands that both police chiefs appear in court and ensure the politician’s safe return.
According to the family, law enforcement has failed to provide information about Ahmed’s disappearance. The case, filed jointly by Ahmed’s relatives and the Wajir County Assembly, requests the court’s intervention, expressing concerns over the continued uncertainty surrounding the MCA’s fate.
Wajir County Assembly Speaker, Abdilleh Yussuf, stated that operations at the assembly have stalled since Ahmed’s abduction. The MCA was reportedly abducted on September 13 while traveling along Enterprise Road in Makadara Sub-County around 9 p.m. The family claims that the kidnappers took Ahmed’s phone, cutting off all communication.
The taxi driver, who was with Ahmed at the time of the abduction, immediately reported the incident to the Industrial Area Police Station, prompting an investigation. However, efforts to trace Ahmed’s whereabouts have so far been unsuccessful.
Despite having reported the matter to various police stations, Ahmed’s family remains frustrated by the lack of information, leaving them increasingly anxious about his safety.
