In a coordinated operation on Tuesday, Kenyan police officers, alongside their Haitian counterparts, carried out extensive security patrols in the streets of Delmas, leading to the arrest of multiple gang members.
According to Godfrey Otunge, the head of the peacekeeping mission, two key members of the notorious “Chen Mechan” and “Pierre 6” gangs were among those captured. “During the raid, several gang members attempted to flee as our forces intensified their operations,” Otunge stated.
Otunge further explained that the joint operation successfully regained control over strategic areas in Delmas, with patrols now ensuring dominance. He added that several gang members were forced to abandon their strongholds as the forces advanced.
The operation also involved dismantling numerous barricades erected by the gangs, including a double wall built by the ‘400 Mawazo’ gang to obstruct access to Delmas.
Otunge noted that the Haitian government recently received letters from gang leaders seeking a truce, but emphasized that the administration is unwilling to negotiate with the criminals.
