The simmering tension between President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, has intensified, threatening the unity of the Mt Kenya region, which was a key stronghold for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the last election.

Recent reports of an alleged plan to impeach Gachagua have deepened the political rift between the two leaders, with analysts predicting a fallout that has sent shockwaves through the mountain region. The struggle for control of Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections has escalated, with insiders revealing the emergence of two rival political camps within the region.

These factions, though operating independently, are reportedly holding secret meetings to craft new political parties aimed at consolidating Mt Kenya’s influence. Each group is positioning itself to lead the region as it seeks alliances with other political powerhouses across the country in preparation for the next election.

Representatives from both sides have indicated that they will announce their strategies and future plans once they finalize their preparations.
