The Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning requires Ksh35 billion to digitize all land records in Kenya, Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome announced on Wednesday. Speaking during a meeting with stakeholders in Nairobi, CS Wahome disclosed that the ministry has already digitized land records in Nairobi and Murang’a counties.
She further revealed that similar projects are set to be launched in Marsabit and Isiolo counties as part of the government’s nationwide initiative to digitalize land records. The entire process is expected to be completed in the next five years, aiming to curb the rampant fraudulent buying and selling of land.
Wahome highlighted that many Kenyans have fallen victim to land scams, losing their hard-earned money to fraudsters who exploit gaps in the current record-keeping system. She pointed out that these cartels often collaborate with corrupt officials to manipulate or steal land files, making verification of land ownership difficult.
