The Catholic Church has swiftly refuted reports claiming the death of Cardinal John Njue, putting to rest any concerns about the well-being of the former Archbishop of Nairobi.
Rumours of Cardinal Njue’s passing went viral on social media, prompting the Archdiocese of Nairobi to intervene and clarify the situation. The Church confirmed that Cardinal Njue, who led the Archdiocese from 2007 to 2021, is alive and in good health.
In a strong statement issued by the Archdiocese through Auxiliary Bishop Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi, the Church dismissed the false claims and urged the public to be more discerning when sharing information, especially on sensitive topics.
This clarification came after persistent social media reports alleged that the 78-year-old cardinal had passed away. The Church reassured the public that Cardinal Njue remains an esteemed figure within the Kenyan Catholic community.
Bishop Gachihi emphasized that any official updates regarding Cardinal Njue’s health will come directly from the Church, advising the public not to rely on unverified reports circulating online.
