Motorists in Nairobi should brace for significant traffic disruptions this Sunday, September 29, as ten major roads will be closed for the Grand Nairobi Bike Race (GNBR). The event, which has drawn 2,500 cyclists from over 21 countries, is set to cause major delays across the city.

Key routes, including Lang’ata Road, Uhuru Highway, and Haile Selassie Avenue, will be shut down as the race kicks off from Nyayo Stadium, lasting until 2pm. Other crucial roads such as the Southern Bypass, Madaraka Roundabout, Masaba Road, and Bunyala Road will also be off-limits, with no alternative routes provided.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and race organisers have advised motorists to plan ahead, though the wide scope of the closures means many will be left navigating detours.

The third edition of the GNBR has grown into a premier sporting event, attracting professional cyclists and enthusiasts alike. This year’s race features six categories, including a 60 km main race, a 48 km para-cycling race, and a 12 km family ride. Cyclists from Uganda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and the USA are among the international participants expected to compete.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the closures to avoid unnecessary delays.
