Several MPs from Nyeri who had initially supported the motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have reversed their stance and withdrawn support for the ouster.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Nyeri Woman Representative Rehab Mukami, and Embu Woman Representative Pamela Njoki announced their change of heart. They attributed the shift to feedback from their constituents and confirmed that they would now vote against the impeachment when the matter is brought to Parliament.
The MPs explained that their earlier support for the motion was based on incomplete information, acknowledging that they had not thoroughly reviewed the charges before making their decision. After a period of reflection and consultation with their electorate, they have decided to oppose the impeachment effort, despite their initial endorsement.
