Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has issued a stern warning to senators, advising them not to comment on the ongoing impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In his statement, Kingi emphasized that the special motion currently before the National Assembly may eventually come before the Senate for deliberation. Therefore, he deemed it inappropriate for senators to publicly express their views on the matter.
The clarification followed reports of several senators being caught on record discussing the ongoing debate on the DP’s impeachment. Kingi further noted that some senators had even criticized members of the National Assembly for their role in the motion.
The Senate Speaker pointed to Articles 145 and 150 of the Constitution, which outline the impeachment process for the deputy president, involving both the Senate and the National Assembly.
