The charges against activist Morara Kebaso have been dismissed after the court ruled that the charge sheet presented against him was defective. Speaking on behalf of Kebaso, his lawyer Pareno Solanka announced that the activist is now free, and the court has ordered the reimbursement of the bail he had posted.

“Morara has been released, and the bail will be returned to him,” Solanka stated following the court’s decision.

Kebaso had been arrested on Tuesday and charged with cyber harassment under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018. The charges stemmed from a social media post on his X account, where he allegedly spread false information about businessman David Langat, claiming that Langat had taken out large loans to support President William Ruto’s campaign.

Following his dramatic arrest in Nairobi by masked police officers who seized his electronic devices, Kebaso was brought before the Milimani Law Courts and was released on a Ksh50,000 bail, which the court has now directed be refunded.
