A report compiled by research firm INFOTRAK has revealed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is the leading candidate to succeed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, should he face impeachment.

The report, which surveyed Kenyans across the country, shows CS Kindiki as the preferred choice, earning 20% of the respondents’ support—significantly outpacing other contenders. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi tied for second place, each receiving 5% approval.

Following closely, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro each garnered 4%, with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga making a surprising appearance in the poll, securing 2% of support for the role.

In terms of gender, 24% of male respondents backed Kindiki, while 16% of female voters also preferred him. Voters aged 36-45 were the most supportive, with 21% of that group favoring the Interior Minister as Gachagua’s replacement.

The poll attributed CS Kindiki’s popularity to his experience, competence, and proven track record. However, despite this support, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro ranked highest in terms of experience and performance, receiving 43% approval in this category.

Interestingly, 60% of those surveyed expressed no clear opinion on who should succeed the Deputy President, despite showing interest in the political developments.

The report comes amid DP Gachagua’s vow to fight impeachment efforts, describing the charges against him as politically motivated and unjust.
