The Ministry of Health has released Ksh 9 billion to the newly established Social Health Authority (SHA), a payment aimed at addressing outstanding debts owed to healthcare facilities by the now-defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), officials announced Monday.
Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai added that an extra Ksh 1 billion will go toward the Linda Mama Program, which provides free maternal healthcare services. This funding boost underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting free healthcare for expectant mothers.
The announcement comes 29 days after SHA’s rollout, amid debates around operational issues linked to the government’s transition from the NHIF to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
