Learning in public universities across the country has come to a standstill after lecturers, represented by the University Academic Staff Union (UASU), began a strike on Tuesday, demanding government compliance with the 2012-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). UASU, led by Secretary General Constantine Wasonga, emphasized that the strike will continue until the government honors the agreed-upon return-to-work formula, which includes several benefits aimed at improving lecturers’ welfare.

The union pointedly blamed university vice-chancellors, accusing them of consistently undermining efforts to secure fair remuneration. “No don will appear in lecture halls to discharge knowledge until our demands are met,” stated Wasonga, reinforcing the lecturers’ firm stance.
