Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, in his first public remarks since being sworn in, issued a subtle challenge to the Supreme Court. Speaking at the official opening of the Supreme Court of Kenya’s twelfth Jurisprudential Conference in Nairobi on Monday, November 4, Kindiki called for a balance between public interest and national welfare.
Addressing dignitaries, including President William Ruto, Kindiki emphasized the need for the Judiciary to consider mechanisms that align public interest with the nation’s higher security needs. Referring to Chapter 238 of the 2010 Constitution, which deals with national security, the Deputy President noted that prioritizing public interest might sometimes undermine the state’s stability.
