Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has urged National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to lead efforts to reform the leadership of parliamentary committees. This comes just weeks after the successful impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Ruku stated that, following the impeachment and recent efforts to “sanitize” the presidency and national security leadership, it is now time for Parliament to cleanse itself.

He argued that changes in committee leadership are essential for Parliament to enact policies and laws that address the nation’s challenges, including advancing stalled development projects that are causing hardship for many Kenyans. Ruku also accused certain committee chairpersons of facilitating corruption through the national budget and called for their removal.

The MP emphasized the importance of competent and responsible leaders within the National Assembly, urging Ichung’wah to drive the reconstitution of committees and replace those who have failed to deliver over the past two and a half years. “We need capable leaders who can serve in their given mandates,” Ruku stressed.
