The government has today, Tuesday, November 5, signed a USD 15 million (approximately Ksh 1.9 billion) agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to aid victims of the severe flooding that struck earlier this year.

Government spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura announced the deal during an event attended by UAE officials led by Ambassador Dr. Salim Ibrahim Alnaqbi, Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris, and leaders from affected counties. The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) aims to provide relief to 50,000 families in Kisumu, Garissa, Tana River, and Busia counties, areas that were hardest hit by the March-April-May floods.

“The generous donation offers targeted assistance to 50,000 households in Kisumu, Garissa, Tana River, and Busia counties, areas that bore the brunt of the emergency flooding period from March to May this year,” emphasized Mwaura. The initiative will focus on delivering aid and rebuilding efforts in communities devastated by the floods.
