A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate at Sironga Girls High School in Nyamira County collapsed on Tuesday morning following an alleged confrontation with a Ministry of Education official. The incident occurred in the midst of ongoing national examinations.
According to a police report, the student, who appeared restless during the examination, was approached by Beatrice Kendi, a Ministry quality assurance officer, around 9 a.m. The officer reportedly suspected the student of chewing something suspicious, prompting further inquiry. Following brief questioning, Kendi allegedly slapped the student multiple times.
As the examination concluded at 10 a.m., the student collapsed, drawing immediate concern from school staff and students. She was swiftly taken to the school dispensary, where she received first aid and was subsequently discharged.
The event has since ignited a public outcry, prompting both security and education officials to visit the school to investigate. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This case emerges just two weeks after a tragic event at the same school, where another Form Four student died following a fall from a hostel’s second floor. The recent incidents have raised questions about student welfare and safety within the institution.
