Residents of Rikiau in Igembe Central are calling on their Member of Parliament, Hon. Dun Kiili, to expedite plans for a new bridge after the current structure suffered severe flood damage. The partially swept-away bridge has become a major safety concern for locals, especially amid the ongoing rainy season, when crossing has become increasingly hazardous.
Community members fear that without immediate intervention, the deteriorating bridge could lead to accidents, putting lives at risk. They have voiced frustration over the lack of urgent action and are urging Hon. Kiili to prioritize the construction of a new, safer bridge to protect the well-being of Rikiau residents.
“We are risking our lives every day just to cross,” one resident said. “We need a new bridge urgently to ensure safe passage for everyone, especially our children and the elderly.”
The community hopes their appeal will spur swift action, bringing relief and safety to the region.
