Schools have been urged to take heightened precautions as the country grapples with a rising number of Mpox cases.
Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Muriuki has issued six key recommendations aimed at safeguarding students and staff, emphasizing the importance of adherence to these measures.
To curb the spread of Mpox, the Ministry of Health has advised regular handwashing with soap and water or the use of alcohol-based sanitizers, particularly after contact with surfaces or physical activities.
Schools are also required to enhance hygiene measures, including the cleaning and disinfection of classrooms, staff rooms, bathrooms, and other shared spaces.
Additionally, the Ministry has called for training all school personnel, including teachers, to identify potential Mpox symptoms and respond appropriately. Common symptoms of Mpox include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue.
These measures aim to ensure a safe learning environment as the fight against the outbreak continues.
