The resumption of National Assembly sittings on Tuesday, February 11, was marked by chaos as Azimio MPs took over the Majority side following a court ruling that stripped Kenya Kwanza of its majority status.

Arriving early at 2:30 PM, the Azimio MPs occupied the seats before the session began. Speaker Moses Wetangula proceeded with the day’s business but faced disruptions from Azimio members, who blocked Kilifi North MP Owen Baya from debating an Auditor General report.

Suba South MP Millie Odhiambo demanded that Wetangula step aside due to a conflict of interest, urging him to allow Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei to take over. She also called for her recognition as Majority Whip, with Junet Mohamed as Majority Leader and Robert Mbui as Deputy Majority Leader.

This followed a High Court ruling by Justices John Chigiti, Lawrence Mugambi, and Jairus Ngaah, which questioned Wetangula’s dual role as Speaker and Ford Kenya leader. Junet Mohamed insisted Parliament must respect the ruling.

In response, Wetangula dismissed the calls to resign, stating that the court ruling did not mandate his removal.
