The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced that doctors in Nairobi County will begin an indefinite strike at midnight on Thursday, February 27 over unpaid salaries, illegal dismissals, and poor working conditions.

KMPDU stated that these issues have crippled healthcare services, making it impossible for doctors to effectively care for patients.

KMPDU’s Statement:
“Doctors don’t choose to strike—but how can we care for patients when we are deliberately incapacitated? For quality healthcare, doctors must be valued, supported, and empowered to serve.”

This strike follows a 30-day notice issued by KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah to the Ministry of Health, demanding urgent intervention. With no resolution in sight, Nairobi’s healthcare system now faces a major crisis.
