The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and the Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS) have called for a complete overhaul of the Social Health Authority (SHA), warning of nationwide protests in two weeks if their concerns are not addressed.
The unions decried the suffering of patients in public health facilities, blaming SHA’s inefficiency for the crisis. They warned that over five million Kenyans risk missing critical medical services due to the system’s failures.
Led by KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atela and UKCS Secretary General Tom Odege, the unions accused President William Ruto’s administration of implementing a flawed system that benefits a select few at the expense of workers.
