New details have surfaced regarding the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy in Majengo, who was reportedly shot in the head by a police officer, sparking violent protests in the area.

According to human rights activist Hussein Khalid, the teenager was shot at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday while returning home from night prayers at the mosque. Despite being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries hours later.

Eyewitness Accounts

The boy’s mother recounted that the officer allegedly scaled a wall, stepped onto the road, and opened fire, fatally shooting her son in the head. The tragic killing immediately ignited protests in Majengo, with angry youth setting a police vehicle on fire on Wednesday morning.

Videos circulating online show thick smoke rising from burning buildings, though it remains unclear whether they were administrative offices or police quarters.

Calls for Justice and Police Response

Following the unrest, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan strongly condemned the killing and urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to launch investigations and ensure justice is served. He also stressed the urgent need for police accountability and reform.

Meanwhile, police were deployed to the area, firing tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. However, tensions remained high as reports from social justice centers indicated that three more people had been injured during the confrontations.

Additionally, unconfirmed reports suggest that an administrative office was destroyed by enraged protesters.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the officer’s alleged involvement in the killing, as residents continue to demand justice for the slain teen.
