The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has demanded the immediate transfer of the Nyanchoka Primary and JSS School headteacher, who allegedly assaulted a teacher last week and remains at large.
In a Wednesday statement, KUPPET Acting Secretary General Moses Nthurima accused the headteacher of interfering with investigations into the assault. The victim, Vincent Onyancha, is still recovering from his injuries, and the union insists he cannot return to the school while the headteacher remains in office, citing psychological distress and a hostile work environment.
Beyond this case, KUPPET has urged the Ministry of Education to review the deployment of teachers to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), calling for a complete leadership overhaul. According to Mr. Nthurima, senior secondary school teachers should take charge of JSS curriculum, staffing, and resource management, arguing that primary school headteachers lack the capacity to handle roles previously managed by principals.
