Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua has cautioned Kenyans seeking employment abroad against drug abuse, warning that it could cost them lucrative opportunities in foreign countries.
Speaking during a recruitment exercise in Roysambu on Wednesday, CS Mutua emphasized that no applicant using cannabis or any other drugs would be accepted by foreign employers.
The CS expressed concern over the rising cases of drug abuse, noting that many qualified job seekers risk missing out on life-changing opportunities due to substance use. He warned that those who fall into this destructive habit could end up unemployed and struggling.
The recruitment drive is offering positions in nursing, driving, cooking, and other skilled professions abroad.
CS Mutua also praised Kenya’s strong labor force but criticized some job seekers for sabotaging their own prospects by engaging in behaviors that disqualify them from international placements.
He urged aspiring migrant workers to remain disciplined and drug-free to secure well-paying jobs overseas and build successful careers.
