Pandemonium broke out along Thika Road on Tuesday afternoon as a group of rowdy youth engaged in widespread looting and theft near the National Youth Service (NYS) headquarters, adjacent to Mathare slums.

Videos circulating on social media platform X captured the marauding youth storming the streets, forcefully boarding public vehicles, stealing from commuters, and ransacking private cars stuck in traffic.

Reports suggest that the group had attended a political rally hosted by President William Ruto before turning to vandalism. Several supermarkets and shops in the area were also looted, with some businesses shutting down in a desperate attempt to protect their premises and customers.

Eyewitnesses claim that police officers were present during the chaos but did not intervene, raising concerns about security enforcement in the area. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
